Description

The Oklahoma Vehicle Bill of Sale is a legal document that will prove in writing, the legal sale and purchase of a motor vehicle in the state of Oklahoma. The document provides needed information regarding the seller, buyer, change of ownership and provides various identifiers about the vehicle being sold and purchased. It’s possible that this document may be required for registration of the vehicle. This form will require notarization.

Odometer Disclosure Statement (Form 729) – Federal and State laws require that this document be completed at the time of sale for the benefit of the buyer so they may be able to register the vehicle.

Register a Vehicle in Oklahoma

If you have purchased a vehicle in Oklahoma, it must be registered before it may be operated on Oklahoma roadways.

Where to Register – When registering your vehicle, you must gather your required documentation and go in person to the Oklahoma Tax Commission nearest your location.

Needed to Register – 

  • A completed Application for Oklahoma Certificate of Title for a Vehicle (Form 701-6).
  • A bill of sale
  • Driver’s license
  • The manufacturer’s certificate of origin for a new vehicle
  • OR
  • The current title that has been transferred to you
  • Proof of your Oklahoma car insurance
  • Payment for title and registration fees.
  • Lien documentation if your vehicle is financed.
  • An odometer disclosure statement if the vehicle is 9 years old or less. This can be included on the transferred title or bill of sale
  • If your vehicle is used or has been bought or purchased in another state, the tag agent will perform a vehicle identification number (VIN) and/or odometer inspection before the OTC issues your title certificate

How to Write

Step 1 – Seller and Buyer Information –Seller and buyer must provide their required information:

  • The Seller –
  • Name
  • Driver’s License Number
  • Physical Address
  • City
  • State
  • AND
  • The Buyer –
  • Name
  • Driver’s License Number
  • Physical Address
  • City
  • State

Step 2 – Vehicle Details – Enter the following required information:

  • Make
  • Type/Model
  • Year
  • Vehicle Identification Number (VIN)
  • Color
  • Odometer Reading (provided in miles)
  • Will the Title be included with the sale? (Check Yes or No)

Step 3 – Trade/Purchase Price – Check the applicable boxes that apply, adding information if required:

  • Check the first box if the seller prefers only monetary payment– Enter the dollar amount in words
  • Enter the dollar amount in numbers
  • Enter a date that is agreed between the parties as to the date of payment, in mm/dd/yyyy format
  • Enter the date in which the document will be known as (in mm/dd/yyyy format)
  • Should both parties agree that payment may be made at a later date, enter the later date (mm/dd/yyyy format)
  • Other – Should other agreements be reached by both parties, briefly describe the agreement
  • Check the box if the vehicle is being provided to the recipient as a gift
  • The last box in this section will address a even-trade. Provide brief details of the trade agreement

Step 4 – Seller’s Disclosure – The seller must read the statements and provide information regarding any known defects in the property, in the lines provided on the form

  • If the seller is then in agreement and has recorded the defects (if any), they may proceed by entering the seller’s signature

Step 5 – Signatures – If all signatories are present before a notary public, enter the following:

  • The Seller –
  • Signature
  • Printed Name
  • AND
  • The Buyer –
  • Signature
  • Printed Name
  • AND
  • The Witness – 
  • Signature
  • Printed Name

Step 6 – Notarization – After the notary public has had the opportunity to have witnessed all signatures, he/she will proceed to complete the remainder of the document and shall affix the state seal

  • Make copies of the completed document(s)
  • Give the original copy to the buyer
